PRiSMA Proctology Surgical Medicine & Associates was founded by board-certified colon and rectal surgeon and Texas native, Aakash Gajjar MD, with the mission of providing individualized quality care for our patients. This process begins with educating our patients and allowing for both the surgeon and patient to share in their decision-making as a team. Our experienced medical professionals put your healing needs first. Dr. Gajjar completed his medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, residency training in General Surgery at the University of Oklahoma as well as a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is double-boarded by the American Board of Surgeons

He is double-boarded by the American Board of Surgeons and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
Prior to his arrival to the southwest Houston area and Sugar Land, Dr. Gajjar served as faculty in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, for nearly 9 years. Prior to his arrival to the southwest Houston area and Sugar Land, Dr. Gajjar served as faculty in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, for nearly 9 years. He served as the Director of the Multidisciplinary Gastrointestinal Tumor Board, and significantly contributed to the institution being rated ‘High Performing in Colon Cancer Surgery’ by U.S. News & World Report 2016-2017 as the solo board-certified Colon and Rectal surgeon. He concurrently held an adjunct position within the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Gajjar has been honored as a Top Doctor and Rising Star in two major Texas magazines for several years and has also been awarded on several occasions for his excellence in teaching. He received the Golden Scalpel Outstanding Teaching Award in 2013 voted by medical students in addition to receiving recognition for Excellence in Teachin
Dr. Gajjar has been honored as a Top Doctor and Rising Star in two major Texas magazines for several years and has also been awarded on several occasions for his excellence in teaching. He received the Golden Scalpel Outstanding Teaching Award in 2013 voted by medical students in addition to receiving recognition for Excellence in Teaching in the Surgical Simulation Center while being at UTMB. On behalf of the Honor Education Council, he was invited as the Key Note Speaker for the Class of 2020 UTMB School of Medicine White Coat Ceremony on August 21, 2016. In 2017-2018, he received the Department of Surgery Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Gajjar has served as a student advisor for the School of Medicine. Dr. Gajjar served as a facilitator for the Practice of Medicine (POM) Course for 1st year medical students, a lecturer and facilitator for POM for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students. He currently serves as a facilitator of the Physician Healer Track (PHT), a 4-year longitudinal scholarly track at UTMB that helps medical students develop their professional identities as healers. Dr. Gajjar was inducted into the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers in 2018.
